52 Names of God for 2012 - Week 6

Yahweh – LORD. God’s personal name “YHWH” – occurs more than 6,800 times in the OT. Rabbinical writers, afraid of profaning this Name, also referred to it as “The Name”, “The Great and Terrible Name”, “The Unutterable Name”, “The Ineffable Name”. As the sacred, personal name of Israel’s God, it was eventually spoken aloud only by priests in the temple – after the destruction of the temple in AD70, they stopped pronouncing this name.

Exo 3:14-15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.   And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD [Yahweh] God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”

Application: This week when you pray, consider God’s personal name - Yahweh - it is the “Covenant Name” in OT and most closely linked to His redeeming acts.  Consider and praise Yahweh for His ultimate redeeming act.

Missionary News…Today’s special collection will be for the Weston Rd Toronto Congregation.  The following is an excerpt from the Nov./Dec. 2011 Christian Friendship Messenger

“…Our flock has been gathering in Toronto for over 60 years beginning in the homes of fellow believers, and now for almost 48 years we have been worshipping in our current church building at 274 Weston Rd. Our congregation had been looking for a new building to worship in for over a decade, especially since we had no parking and our street became busier.  After much difficulty, we are thankful to God that our search is over.  We have found an existing church building on the very same street. However, the building is dated and will require some renovations and repairs, as soon as we take possession of the church on November 4...”

Unless otherwise marked, all funds collected today, will be donated to the Toronto Church.
